Charas is a hashish manually extracted from cannabis flowers in the mountains Pakistan andIndia. In this part of the world, where poverty reigns, farmers have chosen to grow hemp in large quantities, despite the fact that possession of cannabis in these countries is illegal. In fact, repression is so weak that there is a form of unassumed legality which benefits the entirerural industry. This can also be explained by the fact that the farms are located off the beaten track and are therefore very difficult for the authorities to access.
The extraction of Charas is based on an ancestral method of rubbing the flowers between the palms of the hand all day long, in order to obtain a hash of exceptional quality. As far as we know, this technique yields 8 - 9 grams of hashish per day per worker. In comparison, the methods used in Morocco to create Beldia Hash for example, enable them to produce tens of kilos a day simply by tapping the flowers on a sieve. Here, we're dealing with a type of hashish that could be described as luxurious, so difficult is it to obtain.
We call it Olive Hash, because of its elongated, conical shape.
